2023 Mileage: 3759.0
After my accident on Monday, I took my trike to the dealer (Jack's, in Dearborn) for repair on Tuesday.
Yesterday afternoon they called to say it was ready, so I picked it up this morning. The primary cause for the delay was that, the left handlebar having broken off, they had to order it from TerraTrike in Grand Rapids.
I must say, the difference in the brakes now is quite spectacular! They were what failed me on Monday, and caused me to collide with that truck at the intersection. I hadn't realized to what extent I was having to compensate for the worn brake pads by absolutely mashing down the handles with all my strength. Now, however, a light squeeze locks them up securely.
When I picked up the trike this morning, I got a new helmet, too, as my old one did its job in the accident, and was cracked.
Leaving just before noon today (in 62° sunshine that rose to 65° during my ride), I rode a round trip to Marsh Park, only very slightly augmented by a loop on Bicentennial Parkway on my way home.my
In this choice of route, I deviated slightly from my usual philosophy of deeling with a mishap—"Climb right back on the horse that threw you!" But my schedule was slightly squeezed, and in the end I decided that it might be prudent after the layoff to break back in with one slightly easier.
This gave me a ride of 11.0 miles in 1:30.
