2023 Mileage: 630.9

During my ride this afternoon, I watched the tremendously powerful and moving 2014 science fiction movie Interstellar, which I had seen by myself in the theater when it was first released. What is so strikingly moving about it isn't the science fiction aspects, but rather those aspects relating to our humanity. And its 2:44 running time gave me a ride of 41.2 virtual miles.

Wikipedia says of the movie,  "It received acclaim for its performances, direction, screenplay, musical score, visual effects, ambition, themes, and emotional weight. It has also received praise from many astronomers for its scientific accuracy and portrayal of theoretical astrophysics. Since its premiere, Interstellar gained a cult following, and now is regarded by many sci-fi experts as one of the best science-fiction films of all time."

Mention of praise for its musical score interested me, because I hadn't really noticed it as being particularly good previously—but today, although there is no grand sweeping theme to really grab one's attention, I did notice how very well it is crafted, and how, in its multiplicity of details, it supports the emotional content of the film beautifully.
